Introduction:
Luskintyre Airfield is home of the "Luskintigers" and a unique place to visit. A
large collection of DH-82A Tiger Moth aircraft are hangared at this 60 hectare property in
the Hunter Valley near Newcastle. They fly almost every Saturday (weather permitting) and
can be seen conducting circuits, aerobatics and local flights. Lunch is generally at 12:30
pm and provides a unique atmosphere for meeting people, talking about aircraft or just
having a chat. On site is Ray Windred's hangar with a number of vintage aircraft under
construction. Ray specialises in restoring vintage aircraft with his own special style of
old fashioned craftsmanship but using modern methods and materials. General
Description:
The four hangars on the property contain DH-82A aircraft and their bits. A number are
under re-construction by Ray Windred and can be seen in their various stages of completion
in the hangar. The airfield is well maintained and is all over grass. The favoured flight
paths for landing or take off are 12/30. All circuits are to the north east (left hand for
12 and right hand for 30) to avoid neighbours and electric lines. The maximum field length
is approximately 800 metres, and the altitude is 115 feet AMSL. There are no radio
facilities at the field and operation is by a SEE and BE SEEN procedure. Visitors are
welcome but please let us know that you're coming. We are not able to accommodate
commercial operations by agreement with the local council.
There is sometimes limited accommodation available at the field by prior arrangement.
Tie down facilities and limited hangarage are available. Fuel is available at the Royal
Newcastle Aero Club 4Nm south east. |
